India won the fourth T20I of the series against Australia at Carrara Oval by 48 runs and claimed a lead of 2-1. After the match, Suryakumar Yadav backed Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma's batting approach despite them starting slightly slower than usual.

The Indian skipper felt the openers batted smartly by realizing the nature of the surface in Gold Coast. He added that the duo of Gill and Abhishek knew it was not a surface where a total in the range of 200-220 was possible.

"I feel credit goes to all the batters. The way Shubman (Gill) and Abhishek (Sharma) started, they knew this wasn't a 200–220 wicket. They batted smartly. It was a complete team effort," Suryakumar said in the Post-match conference.

Batting first, India managed to post 167/8 on the board. India lost their last 6 wickets for 46 runs, which stopped them posting a total of over 180. Austraia was never in the run chase, as they constantly lost wickets and fell behind in the run chase.

When asked about the strategy of the bowling unit, Suryakumar added that he and the coach were on the same page. He felt there was some dew but the bowlers adapted well. The 35-year-old felt it's good to have bowlers who can provide some overs when needed.

"The message was clear — me and Gauti bhai (Gautam Gambhir) were on the same page. There was a little dew, but the bowlers adapted quickly. It's good to have bowlers who can give you two or three overs and step up when needed," Suryakumar added.
