Mohammed Siraj gave India an early advantage in the first session of Day 3 of the Edgbaston Test by getting rid of Joe Root and Ben Stokes in back-to-back deliveries. The Indian pacer was on fire in his spell and ensured his side reduced the home side to 84/5 after 21.4 overs. However, England stayed alive in the fight due to the partnership between Harry Brook and Jamie Smith.

Siraj got good seam movement in his spell and bowled the third ball of the 22nd over on the leg side. Root tried to nudge the ball towards the fine leg region, but ended up edging it. The ball travelled straight towards Rishabh Pant, who made no mistake, as he took a fine catch to dismiss the star batter.

Root was in a huge disbelief following the dismissal. In walked the skipper Stokes, who received a terrific short ball aimed towards his face. The Southpaw did not expect such a delivery, could only glove it, and the ball travelled towards Pant, who grabbed the ball safely to provide India a breakthrough in back-to-back deliveries.
Harry Brook and Jamie Smith's partnership revives England's innings
India had England at 84/5 at that point and were firmly in the driver's seat. However, since then, the duo of Harry Brook and Jamie Smith have taken charge with a counterattacking partnership of over 100 runs for the sixth wicket.Β

The duo brought England back in the game with their aggressive batting. India tried a bouncer barrage against the duo but could not get rid of them. Spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were hammered too, as Brook and Smith scored 100 runs in just 90 balls. They have continued to assault to put pressure back on the bowlers.
