Shubman Gill scored his second ton since becoming India's full-time Test skipper, as he remained unbeaten at 114*(126) at the end of the first day of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on July 2, 2025. The middle-order batter framed good partnerships with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja, and helped India's cause.
Gill walked in to bat when India's score was 95/2, having lost KL Rahul and Karun Nair before the lunch break. Gill maneuvered the ball well through different regions of the park. He was good on the off-side, on the leg-side, and through the V. The right-handed batter left the ball well and played with conviction and clarity.

Shubman batted with extreme control and played a nearly flawless knock, just like he did in the first innings of the first Test at Headingley, Leeds. He played some exquisite cover drives, flick shots, and used aggressive shots with less risk involved. English bowlers had a tough time dealing with the Indian skipper and could not get the better of him.

In his stay in the middle, Gill scored 114*(126), which included 12 fours and a lot of running between the wickets. He framed a partnership of 66 runs for the third wicket with Jaiswal before the latter perished. Along with Pant, the right-handed batter was involved in a 47-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Soon after it, Nitish Kumar Reddy perished for 1(6), leaving India in a slight spot of bother at 211/5. Since then, Gill has stamped his authority against the English bowlers with his knock. Jadeja assisted him from the other end, who remained unbeaten at 41*(67) at the end of Day 1. Together, the duo has posted 99 runs for the sixth wicket.
