  • The right-handed batter now has the highest individual score for an Indian batter in Tests in the SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia). Gill's 269 surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's 241* against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2004.
  • Shubman became the sixth Indian Test skipper after MAK Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli to score a double hundred.
  • Gill's 269 is now the highest individual score by an Indian Test captain, surpassing the previous record held by Virat Kohli, who scored 254 against South Africa in the Pune Test in 2019.
  • At the age of 25 years and 298 days, Gill became India's second youngest Test skipper to score a double hundred after MAK Pataudi, who is still the youngest at the age of 23 years and 239 days.

  • The 25-year-old became the third Indian skipper after Vijay Hazare and Mohammad Azharuddin to score hundreds in back-to-back Tests.
  • The star batter became only the first Indian and third overall captain after Australia's Bob Simpson (311 in 1964) and South Africa's Graeme Smith (277 and 259 in 2003) to amass over 250 runs in a Test innings in England.
  • Gill became the fourth Indian batter after Mohammad Azharuddin, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Rahul Dravid to score hundreds in three consecutive Tests against England.
  • After Virender Sehwag (309 in Multan and 254 in Lahore) and Rahul Dravid (270 in Rawalpindi), Gill became the third Indian batter to score over 250 runs in a single innings in an away Test.
  • Gill became the first Asian captain to score a double hundred in Test matches in the SENA countries. Tillakaratne had the previous best score of 193 against England at Lord's in 2011.
