Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been going through a rough patch in Tests. Given their age and the rise of youngsters, it is worth wondering if they must retire from Tests. In 2024, Virat Kohli and Rohit have an average of 25.07 and 26.39, respectively. From the upcoming cycle, the duo might not walk into the Test team.

Virat and Rohit Sharma are two of the best Indian batters. Especially in limited-overs cricket, the duo achieved feats that are not easy for other batters. Virat is a phenomenon even in Tests. He is one of the highest run scorers for India in whites. Even Rohit did well in the longest format of the game after being asked to open.

However, the duo might find it difficult to be in the Test team from the upcoming cycle. Their stats in 2024 have been poor, with little to nothing to cheer about. While Rohit did well in the series against England and Virat has usually been good away from home, their record in the home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand was a concern.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's poor form in Tests

With age, Virat and Rohit have not been great against spin. Rohit had a good peak from 2019 to 2023. But in the last year or so, he has been vulnerable against both pace and spin. The ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy has been forgettable for the Indian skipper.

Rohit's scores against Australia have been 3, 6, 10, and 3, respectively. He has found different ways to get dismissed and has been visibly struggling in the middle. On the other hand, Virat has been poor against spin and has a similar template of dismissals against pacers.

Kohli's weakness against outside off-stump delivery has been rewarding for the pacers who have gotten the better of him. His record at home has been poor post-pandemic. As there are many youngsters who are waiting for their opportunities, it is only ideal for the experienced ones to hang out boots from the longest format of the game.
