During the series against South Africa, Rohit Sharma went past Shahid Afridi to become the batter with most sixes in ODIs and international cricket. The former Pakistani skipper opened up on it and congratulated Rohit for going past him. Afridi felt that records in cricket are meant to be broken and was glad that it happened to be someone he liked.
Afridi remembered the time Rohit was his teammate in the IPL in Deccan Chargers and claimed he was impressive as a youngster. In the only season Pakistani players featured in the IPL, Sharma and Afridi played together for Deccan Chargers.

"Records are meant to be broken, and this too is now bettered. I am happy that a player whom I have always liked has broken this record. I am happy that a player whom I have always liked has broken this record. During Deccan Chargers practice sessions, I watched him bat and his class impressed me," Afridi said as quoted by Telecom Asia Sport.

In his statement, Afridi added that he knew Rohit would play for India one day. He noted that his record of the fastest hundred in ODIs remained intact for nearly 18 years but was eventually broken. He hence claimed that the records are meant to be broken.

"I knew that one day Rohit would play for India, and he has proved himself as a classy batter. My record of fastest century stood for nearly 18 years, but it was finally broken, so records are set by one player and another player comes and breaks it. This is cricket," the former Pakistani cricketer added.
