Prasidh Krishna opened up on the exchange of words between him and Joe Root during the fifth Test of the series between India and England at The Oval. The Indian pacer wondered why Root reacted the way he did and claimed he just said the star batter was looking in great shape. Prasidh indeed agreed that riling Root up was a part of their plan, but did not expect to get such a big reaction from him.

"I don’t know why Rooty [reacted]. I just said, 'you’re looking in great shape' and then it turned into a lot of abuse and all of that. That was the plan, but I didn’t expect the couple of words I said to get such a big reaction from him," said Prasidh in BBC's Test Match Special.

When Root walked out to bat, Prasidh had something to say to him. Usually calm, Root replied to him, and the issue seemed to have gotten serious, and the umpires intervened to stop the matter before it could escalate further.

"I love the guy that he is. He is a legend of the game," - Prasidh Krishna on Joe Root

In the Press Conference, Krishna added that when he's in flow and enjoying his game, he tends to get under the nerves of the batters by having a go at them. He regarded Root as a legend of the game and felt banter was a part and parcel of the game at the highest level.

"That’s just who I am when I’m bowling, when I’m enjoying [my game]. If it means that I have a bit of a chat with the batter… and it does help me when I can get under the nerves of the batsman and get a reaction from them. But I love the guy that he is. He is a legend of the game, and I think it is great when two people are out there wanting to do the best and be a winner at a given moment," Krishna added.
