Joe Root scored a fabulous hundred against India in the Manchester Test. The English batter went past the trio of Rahul Dravid, Ricky Ponting, and Jacques Kallis in the elite list of Test batters with the most career runs in the red ball format. He is now the second-highest run-scorer in Tests and is only behind Sachin Tendulkar.
Root batted well in the first innings of the Manchester Test against India and remained unbeaten at 121*(201) at the end of the second session on Day 3. In the process, he broke many records and got past Dravid, Kallis, and Ponting in the list of highest run-getters in Tests. Root is now only behind Sachin Tendulkar in the number of Test runs.

While Jacques Kallis had 13289 runs in 280 innings in Tests at an average of 55.37, including 45 tons and 58 fifty-plus scores, Dravid scored 13288 runs in 286 innings at an average of 52.31, including 36 tons and 63 fifty-plus scores. On the other hand, Ponting has 13378 runs in 287 innings, at an average of 51.85, including 41 tons and 62 fifty-plus scores.

Additionally, Root became the batter with the most Test hundreds against India in the longest format of the game. He scored his 38th hundred in Tests, which is the most for an English batter. He now has 13380 runs in 286 innings at an average of 51.26, including 38 hundreds and 66 fifty-plus scores to his name.

Root had long surpassed Alastair Cook to become England's leading run-scorer in Tests. Sachin Tendulkar remains firmly at the top in the list of top run getters in Tests with 15921 runs in 329 innings, at an average of 53.78, including 51 tons and 68 fifty-plus scores.
