Former England skipper Michael Vaughan came up quite hard while speaking about the Pakistan skipper and star batter, Babar Azam. Notably, Babar has failed to live up to the expectations for Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 so far. He has also failed to perform as a leader as Pakistan lost their first two matches against the minnows USA and the arch-rivals India.

Now, Pakistan are also knocked out of the tournament as the co-hosts and lower-ranked side USA have made it to the super-8 stage of the tournament, with 5 points to their name.

Coming back to Michael Vaughan he didn’t ‘feel that Babar Azam is a good T20I skipper or batter in this shortest format of the game.

“I still don’t see him as a T20 captain. I see him as a Test and 50-over captain. In those two formats, he excels as a player. In T20 cricket, his game is very good, a pure player, but he is not up there with the top 15 batters in T20 cricket. I think there are better players than him up the order,” said Vaughan on Cricbuzz.

But I don’t want them to change it [captain] again. You assume they have to have some consistency. There’s no point changing once again. Even if he is not perfectly suited in T20 cricket, I do think for this period, it's worth him staying consistent because the last thing Pakistan need is a bit more kamikaze, swapping and changing and overreacting,” he added later.

Furthermore, Vaughan also spoke about the perspective of Pakistani fans on the performance of the team in the current edition of the T20 World Cup.

“I think most Pakistan fans will be realistic with this team’s performance. They have not got a great team, at the minute, on paper, it's just not a very good team. It's down to the coaches, selectors, and the system back in Pakistan to try and give those in power [captain and coach] t choose a pool of players.
