Sunil Gavaskar claimed to have given a unique advise to Shubman Gill following his poor form since October 2025. The former Indian cricketer claimed to have suggested Gill to consult someone to work on his bad omens. Gavaskar said so after Gill was stripped of his vice captaincy and dropped from the T20 World Cup 2026 squad.

Speaking on JioHotstar, the veteran addressed Shubman's poor form in the last few months. The former Indian skipper claimed that he had a conversation with Gill while they were on the same flight while travelling to Ahmedabad ahead of the fifth T20I of the 2025 series between India and South Africa.

Gavaskar claimed that Gill had bad omens, given his injury and poor form in the last few months. He hence felt the need for Gill to consut elder ones from his family to work on the same. The veteran regarded Gill to be a class player and wished him luck.

"I was on the same flight from Ahmedabad with Shubman. Seeing him miss games due to injury and form, I told him ghar jaakar kisi buzurg se nazar utarwana. We believe in these things. Nazar kabhi kabhi lag jaati hai. I requested him 'Please ask somebody from your family. I don't know, maybe grandmother or someone. He’s a class player," Gavaskar said.

India announced its T20 World Cup 2026 squad, which saw exclusion of Gill and Jitesh Sharma. Axar Patel became the new vice captain, while Ishan Kishan and Rinku Singh returned to the side. Gill's drop became a topic of discussion, given he was promoted to vice captaincy out of nowhere during the Asia Cup.
