Mohammed Siraj trolled England for their batting approach on the first day of the Lord's Test. In the 31st over of the day, the Indian pacer asked Joe Root where the Bazball approach had disappeared. It was a funny banter, and Siraj displayed a great spirit of sportsmanship by the end of the day, as he appreciated the England batter for his knock.

England was at 89/2 in 30.5 overs when the incident took place. They scored their hundred in the 36th over, the slowest they had got to the landmark as a team under the leadership of Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes. Former England captain Nasser Hussain claimed it to be an anti-Bazball day.

Throughout the day, England tried to play Jasprit Bumrah and did not want to give away wickets for him. As a result, Bumrah ended the day by conceding just 35 runs in his 18 overs, including a wicket at an economy rate of just 1.9 and 3 maiden overs, which was very unlike Bazball.

Right from the openers and even in the middle order, batters were watchful against a majority of the Indian bowlers, except for Akash Deep, who was the only bowler to concede runs at an economy rate of over 3.5 on Day 1 of the Lord's Test.

Root batted well, as he negated the Indian pacers and spinners well with his calculative batting. At the end of the first day, Root remained unbeaten at 99*(191), which included 9 fours at a strike rate of 51.8. Siraj appreciated the right-handed batter's knock, who headed back to the dressing room for loud cheers from the fans.
