Batting first, the English openers seemed to have a change in their approaches, as they toned down their aggression and were slightly watchful against Jasprit Bumrah. Reddy made good use of the surface, as he got the ball to swing both ways at a decent pace. The right-arm pacer shortened his length and forced Ben Duckett to play the pull shot. However, the Southpaw could not make good contact, which led to him edging the ball, as Rishabh Pant caught the ball to provide the early breakthrough.

Crawley had no clue as the ball moved towards his right, and was forced to play, inducing an outside edge. Pant did not commit any mistake behind the stumps and claimed the catch to provide India with the second wicket of the over and the innings, which put them at the top briefly in the match.
