India lost the Under19 Asia Cup 2024 final to Bangladesh U19 by a margin of 59 runs. Bangladesh successfully managed to defend their title.

Bangladesh U19 batted first and posted a good total of 198 runs on the board. In a big match, such scores are often tough to chase, especially at the U19 level. Bangladeshi batters played out the tough overs and targeted the selective overs of some of the bowlers. Md Rizan Hossan was the highest scorer for Bangladesh with his 47(65).

Mohammad Shihab James was handy with his 40(67). The batter who made a difference was Farid Hasan Faysal who made 39(49). Along with the WK batter, the tailenders added some runs and ensured Bangladesh had 198 runs on the board. For India, Yudhajit Guha, Chetan Sharma, and Hardik Raj claimed 2 wickets each.

Bangladesh claim a dominant win over India in the U19 Asia Cup final

199 was not an easy total. The Indian batters felt the pressure of chasing the total against a good bowling lineup. The 5-time champions were reduced to 24/2 after 4.4 overs. There were some batters who got starts but could not capitalize on it.

Andre Siddarth,  KP Karthikeya, and Skipper Mohamed Amaan all tried to stay in the middle but were dismissed during the crucial junctures of the game. From 73/3 at one stage, the Indian batters collapsed to a score of 139, losing their last 7 wickets for just 66 runs. Bangladeshi skipper shined with the ball.

Azizul Hakim Tamim was the chief bowler behind the collapse who claimed 3/8 in his spell of 2.2 overs including a maiden. Al Fahad and Iqbal Hossain Emon claimed 2 and 3 wickets respectively. The latter was the best bowler who claimed a maiden over and got rid of most of the middle-order batters as Bangladesh defended their title.
