Ever since the start of the Indian Premier League in 2008, many records have been created during the course of the competition. On Sunday, in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) versus Rajasthan Royals (RR) game, Riyan Parag joined a special list. The 23-year-old hit former England all-rounder Moeen Ali for five sixes in a single over. Before this, only four players have achieved this feat in IPL history.

Yuvraj Singh became the first batter in T20 history to hit six sixes in an over that occurred during the 2007 World Cup against England. Stuart Broad was at the receiving end of the brutal hitting that is still remembered to this day. Over the years many batters have shown their power hitting in the IPL to set new records.

Rahul Sharma came in to bowl the 13th over and saw Saurabh Tiwary take a single to give Chris Gayle the strike. The former West Indian batter who was batting on 41 hit five successive sixes to reach 71 and reduce the gap. RCB eventually won the game on the last ball as Tiwary hit Ashish Nehra for a huge six.

Sharjah witnessed a storm of a different kind when Rajasthan Royals took on Punjab Kings in the 2020 IPL season. Punjab had posted 223 on the board after batting first and held the sway for most of the game. RR needed 51 off 18 balls with Tewatia struggling to get his timing right. Just when all hopes were lost, the left-handed batter hit West Indian pacer Sheldon Cottrell for four successive sixes. The penultimate ball of the over was a dot ball but the final ball produced yet another six. In the space of five balls, Tewatia had become a hero for his side as RR went on to win the game three balls and four wickets to spare.

Indian star Ravindra Jadeja took Harshal Patel to the cleaners with his brutal hitting in the CSK vs RCB IPL 2021 game in Mumbai. The left-handed batter swatted the RCB pacer for four successive sixes, which also included a no-ball. Daniel Christian dropped an easy catch on the second ball of the over that proved costly. In the fifth ball of the final over, Jadeja hit his fifth six straight over the deep mid-wicket region and ended the over with a four. Harshal Patel, who was the best bowler of the tournament, had gone for 37 runs after having conceded just 14 runs in his first three overs.

In what was the craziest finish to an IPL game, Rinku Singh had his breakout moment with five successive sixes off Yash Dayal’s bowling. Defending champions Gujarat Titans had to defend 29 in the last over, which saw Umesh Yadav take a single off the first ball. Rinku Singh hit the first two balls over the extra cover and backward square leg for sixes. This was followed by a third six that went over the long-off region to make it 10 runs needed from two balls. Yash Dayal lost his length and was slammed for two more sixes to win the game for KKR.

This rare IPL batting record was achieved as Parag faced Moeen Ali in the 13th over of the innings. The first six was slammed over the square leg region that saw the batter reach his fifty. The second six was hit over the long-on region as RR fans began to believe that they could chase down the target with their captain in such a destructive mood. Moeen Ali then went round the wicket, but the change of angle didn’t work. Parag was quick to seize on the chance to slam the third six of the over. The over ended with two more sixes over the long-off and long region.
