Mumbai Indians (MI) coasted to an easy win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) to go top of the IPL 2025 table. Rajasthan Royals, with this huge loss, now have been eliminated from the tournament and became the second team after Chennai Super Kings to be shown the exit door.
It was a one-sided performance as MI’s batters and bowlers ran the show at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Mumbai Indians won the game by 100 runs to put themselves one step away from the playoffs. Batting first, Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma added 116 runs for the opening wicket. That stand came in just 11.5 overs as the MI batters left the home team bowlers looking clueless with their effortless batting. Maheesh Theekshana struck first to dismiss Rickelton for 61 and soon Rohit Sharma was out for 53 runs.
Just when it seemed that RR were getting back into the game with two quick wickets, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav dashed those hopes. Both batters ended up with a 23-ball 48 not out to help MI score 217 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryvanshi came out to bat to huge cheers as the home fans expected an encore from the previous game.
Mumbai Indians bowlers rattle RR to achieve easy win
RR fans were heard making huge noise when Suryavanshi took strike against Deepak Chahar. The 14-year-old went for a big shot and offered a simple catch to Will Jacks, who was fielding inside the circle. In the next over, Jaiswal smacked Trent Boult for two sixes in three balls to signal his intent. The veteran pacer castled Jaiswal for 13 and got his 300th wicket in T20 cricket. Boult also got the wicket of Nitish Rana for nine runs as RR lost their third wicket.
Jasprit Bumrah then dismissed Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer off successive balls to put himself on a hattrick. Shubham Dubey got off the mark with a four and avoided the trick and also hit Corbin Bosch for a six. Hardik Pandya came into the attack and got the scalp of Dubey with his very first ball.
Impact player Karn Sharma was brought in place of Rohit and the veteran star struck soon after. Karn first got the wicket of Dhruv Jurel before dismissing Theekshana and Kumar Kartikeya for two runs each. England pacer Jofra Archer was the best batter for RR with 30 off 27 balls before he became the last wicket of the innings, falling to Boult to give the Kiwi pacer his third wicket of the day.
