Jasprit Bumrah was not at his best in the first innings of the Manchester Test against England, as he conceded over 100 runs in an innings for the first time in his career. Bumrah's inability to take wickets quickly and be at his best was the main reason behind England's strong position in the Old Trafford Test.

Bumrah made his international debut in 2016 in the fifth ODI of the series against Australia. In the same series, he also made his T20I debut before making a debut in the red ball format in 2018 against South Africa. Since then, there have not been many instances when Bumrah could not be at his best. Hence, his failure comes as a surprise to many.

For the first time since making his international debut in 2016, Bumrah conceded over 100 runs in an innings. It took nine years for the world-class bowler to give arguably his worst performance. The unorthodox pacer could not operate at his usual pace of over 140 kmph and offered some loose deliveries to the batters.

Ben Stokes scores his first Test hundred in two years

Among those who took advantage of it was Ben Stokes, who had already taken a fifer earlier in the match, and made a statement with the bat. The English skipper scored his first Test ton in nearly two years since he had registered one against Australia at the Lord's Test in the Ashes 2023.

His knock helped England to further gain a massive advantage over the visiting side. The home side crossed a total of over 600 runs and was firmly in the driver's seat. Stokes continued to bat and attempted to bat India out of the game and hence the series.
