Kevin Pietersen had a controversial take on the challenge for batters in different eras. The former English batter claimed batting in 2025 is nearly twice as easy as it was 20-25 years ago. Pietersen pointed at some of the best bowlers of the 1990s and 2000s and compared them with the current bowlers.
Pietersen listed the West Indian bowlers like Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh, and the Sri Lankan bowlers like Chaminda Vaas and Muttiah Muralitharan in his argument. He additionally added the names of New Zealand bowlers like Chris Cairns, Shane Bond, and Daniel Vettori to prove his argument.

Pietersen claimed there were multiple good bowlers from Australia, like Brett Lee, Jason Gillespie, Shane Warne, and Glenn McGrath. He further added England's Darren Gough and India's Javagal Srinath, Anil Kumble, and Harbhajan Singh to his list.
"Please name me 10 modern-day bowlers that can compare to the names," - Kevin Pietersen asks his followers
Further, Pietersen took the names of South African legends like Allan Donald, Shaun Pollock, and Lance Klusener. Pietersen felt the Pakistani bowlers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Shoaib Akhtar were better than the current crop. He asked his followers to name 10 such good bowlers, while he named 22 of them.

"Don’t shout at me, but batting these days is way easier than 20/25 years ago! Probably twice as hard back then! Waqar, Shoaib, Akram, Mushtaq, Kumble, Srinath, Harbhajan, Donald, Pollock, Klusener, Gough, McGrath, Lee, Warne, Gillespie, Bond, Vettori, Cairns, Vaas, Murali, Curtley, Courtney, and the list could go on and on… I’ve named 22 above. Please name me 10 modern-day bowlers that can compare to the names above?" wrote Pietersen on X.
