India and Australia are gearing up for a riveting five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series later this year. Rohit Sharma and Co. will visit Australia for the showpiece event starting November 22 in Perth. The action will then shift to Adelaide for a day-night Test, with the final three matches being played in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney respectively.

It is noteworthy that India has been dominant in the last 10 years, whether at home or away. This includes their famous triumph in 2020-21, where they came back from a humiliating 36 all out to take the series 2-1 in dramatic fashion at the Australian stronghold of the Gabba. Men in Yellow experienced similar results when they toured India for the previous edition.

Australia last tasted success in this intense red-ball contest in 2014-15.  With their quest for a title in the last 10 years still on, former Aussie wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist has come up with a bold prediction about the outcome of the series.

Onus is on Australia: Adam Gilchrist

Gilchrist feels it will be a tough series for both participants. He opined that India are a strong unit but the onus is on Australia to prove they are dominant at home. The former opening batter predicted Australia to win, saying it was a close call.

“It is going to be another tough series for both teams. Onus is on Australia to prove they are the dominant force at home. India knows how to go away and win overseas. Their fast-bowling line-up at the moment is up there, on a par with most around the world. They are going to enjoy the conditions here. Besides, they have a terrifically talented batting line-up. It is going to be very, very even,” Gilchrist said.

“Naturally, I am going to say Australia; I hope they get there. But it is too close to call. It will be a close tussle,” he added.
