Australian cricket star Marnus Labuschagne has expressed massive disappointment over the bleak future of Gabba. The Brisbane based ground has been one of the most iconic venues, has been known to be a fortress for the Australian cricket team.

Recently the CEO of Cricket Australia, Nick Hockley said, “We welcome that there’ll be further investment in the near term but … we think that the sports fans of Queensland deserve a brilliant, fit-for-purpose stadium for the longer term.”

Marnus Labuschagne during his chat with FOX sports said, “Every time we (Australia) don’t get to play at the Gabba it’s disappointing for us as a playing group because we love the wicket at the Gabba.”

Gabba set to miss out on Ashes 2025

As per reports, Gabba may not get to host a game when the English side comes visiting in 2025. The ground has played host to the series opener in the iconic series on the last few occasions. As per reports, Perth could host the first game of the series just like they would with the first Test versus India.

Marnus Labuschagne also said, “We love playing in Brisbane, we’ve got a really good record in Brisbane, so that (no Tests at the Gabba) is really not ideal. Hopefully, over the next couple of years we can sort out the things that need to be done for us to be hosting Tests (at the Gabba) in the future. It’d be a sad day if we don’t get to play at the Gabba for a long period of time.”

When asked to comment about the inclusion of cricket in the Olympics, the Aussie star said “It’s very exciting for cricket to be in the Olympics. It’s going to be awesome. It’s hard to fathom how it’s even going to work with everything. It’s really exciting to host the Olympics first and foremost in 2032, but to have the Olympics in America (in 2028), and to have the cricket in there, it’s going to be amazing.”

Gabba is set to host the third Test match between Australia and India in December this year. The last time the two sides met at the venue, Team India beat Australia to become the first team in nearly three decades to win a Test at this venue.
