Jharkhand won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for the first time in its history in the 2025 season under the leadership of Ishan Kishan. The star player shined both as a batter and as a skipper, as he scored 101(49) in the final.Throughout the tournament, he was brilliant and had a brilliant outing in a majority of the chances he got to bat.

His scores in the tournament were 113*(50) against Tripura, 93(50) against Saurashtra, 21(7) versus Uttarakhand, 2(4) against Tamil Nadu, 47(23) against Punjab, 63(30) against Madhya Pradesh, 35(18) against Andhra, and 101(49) against Haryana. After helping Jharkhand to win SMAT 2025, Kishan claimed that a dialogue of Baahubali inspired him.

"There was a dialogue in Baahubali which said, ‘Wherever a king goes, he remains a king' - So, that is the simple thing. Wherever you are, in whatever situation, you shouldn’t stop believing in yourself," Kishan said on Sportstar.

The wicketkeeper batter expressed his sadness of being left out of the Indian team.He claimed to have known to perform even better, which is exactly what he did in SMAT. Kishan claimed that he probably felt the need to perform better as a team and help his team to win and walked the talk.

"When I was not selected in the Indian team, I felt quite bad because I was doing well but I told myself that if I am not selected with this sort of performance, then maybe I have to do more, maybe I have to make my team win, maybe we have to do well as a unit," he added.
