As the Indian Premier League (IPL) gears up for its 2025 season, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have taken significant steps in shaping their squad for the upcoming mega auction. Having joined the league just three years ago, LSG has made a notable impact by reaching the playoffs in their first two seasons. However, their performance in the 2024 season was a disappointment, finishing seventh with 14 points from 14 matches, having won and lost seven games each.
LSG's retention list ahead of Mega Auction 2024
In light of this mixed performance, LSG has announced its retention list, highlighting a strategic focus on maintaining a core group of players while making some tough decisions. The franchise has retained the dynamic West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran as the top choice for the whooping price of INR 21 crore. Pooran's stats in IPL 2024 underline his importance to the team: he scored 499 runs across 14 innings with an impressive strike rate of 178.21, showcasing his ability to accelerate the game at crucial moments.
Another notable retention is young Indian pacer Mayank Yadav, who has been making headlines for his fiery pace. However, Yadav’s journey has been marred by injury concerns, prompting discussions about his future fitness and availability. He will be joined by spinner Ravi Bishnoi. Notably, they both will get INR 11 crore each.
LSG has also shown faith in uncapped Indian batter Ayush Badoni and bowler Mohsin Khan. They will get INR 4 crore each. It's worth noting that Badoni and Mohsin have been big investments as youngsters for LSG since they joined the league in 2022.
KL Rahul released by LSG!
On the flip side, LSG has made some tough calls by releasing key players, including all-rounder Krunal Pandya and captain KL Rahul. The team also parted ways with wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock and Afghan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, as they look to refresh their squad ahead of the auction.
