IPL 2025 retention players list and RTM strategies for SRH

Sunrisers Hyderabad stunned the world with their aggressive brand of cricket during IPL 2024. Pat Cummins was named the captain of the side and the Australian changed the fate of the team in just one season. Kavya Maran and her team also went on to buy Travis Head to stop the rot of finishing in the bottom places in the league. 

The IPL 2016 winners scored the highest team total in the league history twice. The first time was against Mumbai Indians where they scored 277/3 from their 20 overs. Pat Cummins and his men then scored 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru to create a new record. 

Ahead of the IPL 2025 auctions there are speculations about which players will be retained by SRH. With the team already having a host of star names it will be difficult for the management to come to a decision. The fans will hope that they can keep hold of their star players and go for the title assault next season.

Here is the likely retention list for SRH ahead of IPL 2025 season

1- Pat Cummins 

Sunrisers Hyderabad will do everything in their power to keep hold of Pat Cummins. The Australian skipper was pivotal with the ball as well as with the bat. The biggest contribution from Cummins will be as the captain. His acumen and experience will be needed if Hyderabad wants to make a serious play for the title. Hyderabad will also know that letting Cummins go after paying INR 20 crores for him last season will prove to be a disastrous move financially. 

2- Abhishek Sharma

India’s latest batting sensation captured the imagination of fans with this brutal hitting during IPL 2024. Abhishek Sharma formed a dangerous stand at the top of the order with Travis Head. The youngster is not only a formidable batter but also bowls well. Last year his left-arm spin wasn’t called upon that much. Abhishek Sharma is now a member of the Indian T20 side and will hope to continue to sizzle with bat for Hyderabad. 

3- Heinrich Klaasen 

South African wicketkeeper and batter Heinrich Klaasen was one of the key players for Sunrisers Hyderabad last season. Klaasen was brutal against bowlers in the middle order. This was seen during the T20 World Cup as well as he took on Axar Patel. Pat Cummins will want SRH to hold on to their star player with all the qualities that he brings to the table. Klaasen is one of the few players who can turn the course of a game with his stint at the wicket. 

4- Travis Head 

Australian star Travis Head has been one of the most destructive batters in the last 18 months. The left-handed batter was at his best during IPL 2024. The best moment for Travis Head was when he scored a century against his former side Royal Challengers Bengaluru. This was also followed by a brutal innings away against Delhi Capitals. Hyderabad know the importance that Travis Head carries and his mere presence can send shivers to any opposition bowlers. 

5- Nitish Kumar Reddy 

Young all-round star Nitish Kumar Reddy was the breakout player for Sunrisers Hyderabad last season. Nitish not only scored crucial runs with the bat but also was seen bowling well. He was already touted as a potential replacement for Hardik Pandya with these feats. The Hyderabad native will want to stay with his home franchise for the coming IPL 2025 season 

Right to match card – Bhuvneshwar Kumar 

India’s veteran star may not be in contention for a place in the international team. The 34-year-old though is one of the most experienced players in the IPL. Bhuvneshwar Kumar hasn’t lost his ability to swing the ball and bowl well with the new ball. The right-arm pacer also is a very good bowler towards the end of the innings. Sunrisers Hyderabad will hope to retain Bhuvneshwar Kumar for all the experience that he has. Pat Cummins too will want a player of such quality for the next few season and help Hyderabad win the title.
