Australia's skipper Pat Cummins is known to throw challenges at other teams ahead of important series. He did the same thing before the ODI World Cup 2023 and kept his word in the finals as Australia beat India in Ahmedabad. Similarly, ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024, Cummins gave a direct warning that they would try to keep India's wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant 'quiet' during the series.

Now, the cricket world is aware of Pant. He's someone who keeps on chirping throughout the match from behind the stumps and he makes noise with his bat as well. The Australians can't afford to deal with both things. Hence, they'll try their best to go after Pant throughout the series. This is one of the best ways to push India back for a while since the pressure will fall directly on them.

"Someone like Rishabh Pant might play a reverse lap and it’s an incredible shot. That’s just a part of who he is. We’ve become accustomed to it nowadays because some of those ridiculous shots are a bit more common. He is someone who has had a big influence on a couple of series. Got to try to keep him quiet," said Pat Cummins in an interview with Star Sports.

Pant's heroics were seen in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2021 when India beat Australia at the Gabba to win the series. The memories of the match are etched in the minds of every Indian who witnessed the match at that time. It was exceptional gameplay from Pant, who was relatively young at that time. Hence, the stakes are quite high for his performance in the upcoming series.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 to start on November 22

The most-awaited series of the year, Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024, is set to take place on November 22 in Australia. The Indian team will travel to Australia to play the 5-match Test series, which falls under the World Test Championship (WTC) in 2025. While India are in the 1st position of the WTC points table, Australia are just below them with seven wins in 12 games.

Hence, considering their interest in the WTC Finals, the upcoming series is extremely important for both teams. Moreover, the WTC Finals will be held in London this time from 7th to 11th June 2025.
