Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Mumbai Indians (MI) clashed in Match 48 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at Ekana Cricket Stadium. Mumbai succumbed to their seventh defeat of the tournament as home team LSG took a four-wicket win in a low-scoring encounter.
Invited to bat first, the visitors got off to the worst possible start with LSG pacers having fun with the new ball. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav fell early without making much of an impact on the scoreboard. Things got worse as Thilak Varma and captain Hardik Pandya returned to the pavilion in quick succession.
However, a 50-run partnership between Ishan Kishan and Nehal Wadhera and a late burst from Tim David ensured their total crossed 140. Chasing a modest score of 145, the LSG batters had to sweat hard as the MI bowlers fought hard till the last over. It was Marcus Stoinis’ half-century that helped the hosts to get over the line.
Here are the 5 worst performances from LSG vs MI, Match 48:
Arshin Kulkarni – Golden Duck
In the absence of Quinton de Kock, it was Arshin Kulkarni who opened the innings for LSG alongside skipper KL Rahul. The 19-year-old was expected to give a positive start for the team, but unfortunately, got dismissed on the very first ball that he faced. It was Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara who gave an early breakthrough for MI.
Rohit Sharma – 4 runs off 5 balls
The former MI skipper was expected to set the stage on fire on the occasion of his birthday, but unfortunately, had a bad day at the office. He was dismissed by LSG pacer Mohsin Khan in the second over for just four runs. His dismissal also caused a minor collapse in the MI batting unit.
Tilak Varma – 7 runs off 11 balls
Tilak Varma has been MI's top scorer this season and the youngster has been in fine form with the bat. However, he failed to make an impact today and that left MI in deep trouble. The southpaw was expected to stabilize the innings when they lost Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav early on. But unfortunately, he was run out making only 7 runs off 11 balls.

Deepak Hooda – 18 off 18 balls
Deepak Hooda's return to form was hinted at by scoring a half-century in the last match. But today, against MI, he struggled to get going, scoring 18 runs at a strike rate of 100. Had it not been for Marcus Stoinis' 62, Hooda's slow knock would have cost LSG the game.
Suryakumar Yadav – 10 runs off 6 balls
Suryakumar Yadav has had an inconsistent campaign so far and his batting woes continued in today's match. The star batter gave promising signs at the start with a maximum, but failed to find resistance and eventually got out with just 10 runs in his account.
