KL Rahul (Source: BCCI/IPL)
KL Rahul's unbeaten 82 runs off 53 balls for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) crushed the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by eight wickets in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Skipper Rahul's batting was much more than just the game of strike rates for which he has been trolled lately. His reliable batting at the top helped LSG build a solid partnership, which later benefitted the team. Besides this, Rahul's current form in IPL 2024 has brought up the discussion of him being a part of the T20 World Cup 2024 squad. The squad isn't out yet, but we can see a clear chance of him going to the West Indies and the US soon.
Let's discuss three reasons why KL Rahul is a good fit in the T20 World Cup squad:
1. KL Rahul's outstanding form in the ongoing IPL 2024
Rahul's form has been outstanding in the IPL 2024, where he scored 286 runs in seven innings. If we talk about the strike rate, on average, it has been 143, which is not so bad for a T20 batter. His orthodox batting is a standout point for him. Considering his current form, picking him for the T20 World Cup will be a wise decision by the selectors, as he has so much to offer as a batter.
2. Performing at par with his competitors
If we compare Rahul's performance to that of his competitors like Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant, other keeper-batters in India, the LSG skipper's performance is at par. Returning from injury, Pant is still trying to get hold of the game, while Samson might threaten Rahul's chances. However, nothing would matter in the race if Rahul maintained his form for a longer time.
3. A good middle-order batter with a keeping option
The best thing about the skipper is his ability to be flexible as per the team's needs. Being a keeper-batter, Rahul can not only open but also be a middle-order batter. It's not new that Rahul has been tried at several positions throughout his career. Also, India will get a reliable batter in the form of Rahul if he gets selected. Hence, it's a win-win situation in the end.
