Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) hosted Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 48 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Both teams were desperate to get back on the winning track after losing their previous matches. However, it was LSG who had the last laugh with a four-wicket win at their home ground, Ekana Cricket Stadium.

Opting to bowl first, the LSG pacers got off to a blazing start with the new ball, removing birthday boy Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav cheaply. Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya fell on back-to-back deliveries and the visitors were 28/4 at the end of the Powerplay. However, Ishan Kishan and Nehal Wadhera steadied the ship for a while and Tim David's cameo in the end took Mumbai past 140.

LSG managed to restrict Mumbai to a modest score of 144, but the MI bowlers did not make it easy for the opposition batters to chase down the target. Marcus Stoinis led the charge with a brilliant half-century. MI fought till the end but lost in the last over and occupied second last position in the points table.

Here are the top 5 standout performances from LSG vs MI, Match 48:

Mohsin Khan - 2/36 in 4 overs

Mohsin Khan drew first blood in the second over of the innings with a huge wicket of former MI captain Rohit Sharma. The LSG pacer conceded a boundary in the second ball but took revenge in the very next delivery. Rohit's weaknesses against left-arm pacers are no secret and it was on display again at the Ekana Stadium.

Mohsin returned to the attack in the fourth over in search of another wicket in the powerplay. Though he failed to pick one, he conceded just two runs and put MI batters under pressure. Later in the innings, he managed to dismiss MI's top scorer Nehal Wadhera, finishing with figures of 2/36 from his four overs.

Tim David - 35 off 18

After an early collapse, Ishan Kishan and Nehal Wadhera's 50-run partnership breathed some life into MI's innings. But the slowest stand of the season was not enough for MI to post a respectable total on the board and fight back in the second innings.

It was Tim David’s little cameo towards the end that helped Mumbai to reach 144-7. Batting at No.7, the Australian big-hitter smashed three fours and six to score 35 of just 18 balls. Notably, he scored 17 runs in the final over against Mohsin to give a superb finish to the innings.

Marcus Stoinis - 62 off 45 and 1/19 in 3 overs

Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis is again the saviour of LSG. Though it was a moderate total for LSG to chase down, the hosts did not get off to a good start to their batting innings. They lost Arshin Kulkarni for a golden duck in the first over.

To get the most out of Stoinis' batting prowess, LSG moved the fast-bowling all-rounder to number three. Captain KL Rahul struggled to get out but Stoinis kept the run rate in check. The right-hander made sure his team was on the right track with a 45-ball 62 with seven fours and two sixes. Don't forget he was brilliant with the ball too, taking one wicket for 19 runs in his three overs.

Hardik Pandya - 2/26 in 4 overs

Hardik Pandya failed to contribute with the bat but excelled with the bowl, taking two wickets for 26 runs in four overs. He has not been at his best in either department so far this season, but today he managed to prove his critics wrong. The fast-bowling all-rounder claimed crucial wickets of KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda.

Nehal Wadhera – 46 off 41 deliveries

MI were struggling at 28/4 after the powerplay and they needed someone to form a partnership to pull them out of embarrassment. Ishan Kishan was looking for a partner as wickets continued to fall at one end and Nehal Wadhera finally arrived in support. Both added 50+ runs for the fourth wicket with Wadhera contributing 46 off 41 balls.
