After the disastrous Border Gavaskar Trophy, the Indian cricket team is looking to bounce back in the white-ball format. The selectors announced the team for the home ODI series against England. This will be followed by the Champions Trophy 2025, with India set to play all their games in Dubai.
Rohit Sharma has been named the captain of the side for the Champions Trophy tournament. The 37-year-old is under tremendous pressure after his horrendous run with the bat during the recent tour of Australia. The next few months are huge for India, as they have not only lost the BGT series but also the chance to qualify for the WTC finals.
Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami is back in the team after missing the entire 2024 season due to injury. The 34-year-old was overlooked for the Australian tour owing to fitness concerns, which sparked huge debate in the cricketing circles. After playing domestic cricket for Bengal, the 34-year-old is back to his full fitness. The return of Shami is also good news for India, as he brings in great experience with the ball in ICC tournaments.

Jasprit Bumrah has been named in the side after there were doubts that he could be missing due to injury. This is a huge boost for India considering the 31-year-old has faced fitness concerns during the SCG Test match against Australia. Bumrah, along with Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj will be leading India's pace bowling charge during the tournament.
Shubman Gill has been appointed as the vice-captain of the side for both the ODI series against England and Champions Trophy 2025. It is to be noted that Jasprit Bumrah was the vice-captain of the side during the recent tour of Australia. The 25-year-old batter will be opening the batting in the fifty-over format and Yashasvi Jaiswal has been named as the back-up opener.
KL Rahul, who batted reasonably well during the Australia, is part of the team that will take part in the Champions Trophy 2025. The 32-year-old was initially set to rest for the ODI series against England, but the selectors have named Rahul in the team considering this is a huge series ahead of the massive tournament. Shreyas Iyer, who hasn’t played international cricket for a while, is also back in the team.
