Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was in the eye of the storm just before the start of the India vs Bangladesh Test series. Certain sections of fans weren’t happy with Bumrah naming himself as the fittest cricketer in India. Their fans on social media were unhappy with Virat Kohli’s name not being taken and directed their ire at the Indian pacer.

R. Ashwin came out in defense of Bumrah and called out the people for mocking his fitness. The Indian spinner during his chat with journalist Vimal Kumar asked the fans not to make a mountain out of a molehill.

The veteran Indian star said "People immediately say Bumrah got injured; how can he be the fittest? Boss, there's a huge difference between a tipper lorry and a Mercedes Benz. Mercedes is chauffeur-driven; its spare parts are very costly. Now, think about a Tipper Lorry. It has to go from North to South with so much load. A fast bowler is a tipper lorry. He will break down. He has returned after a stress fracture and is bowling at 145, give credit to him”

Jasprit Bumrah faced hate for his comments by social media users

During a recent event, Bumrah was asked to name the fittest cricketer in India. The pacer replied “I know the answer you are searching for, but I would like to say my name because I am a fast bowler. I have been playing for a while...and being a fast bowler and playing in this country in this heat takes a lot of requirements. So I will always promote a fast bowler.”

This answer didn’t go down well with the fans with social media users mocking the pacer. There were certain sections of fans who agreed with the 30-year-old and the reason behind naming himself the fittest.

Further during his chat with Vimal Kumar, the veteran Indian star also said “Why do you want to make this thing big? Jasprit Burmrah is a fast bowler who clocks 145 kph in the scorching heat, slogs so hard and is the crowned jewel of Indian cricket. They took the Kohinoor diamond but Bumrah is currently India's Kohinoor diamond. Let Jasprit Bumrah say whatever he wants to, just accept it”

Ashwin also added “Tell me one thing: Has any fast bowler after Kapil Dev become as big (as Bumrah)? Bumrah is the only one who comes and wins you matches. Also, you asked Jasprit Bumrah the question, and then you also want to answer it. You are saying, 'I'm not satisfied with your answer'. How is this fair?"
