Dinesh Karthik was not happy with the fact that Shreyas Iyer wasn't picked in India's squad for the Asia Cup 2025. The former Indian player claimed Iyer had done everything possible for his T20I comeback. Karthik felt Iyer could make his return to the Indian side soon and might be an all-format player.

Karthik spoke with India Today and noted how Iyer improved his batting in domestic cricket, helped Mumbai win multiple titles, and became one of the costliest players in the IPL Auction, helped Punjab Kings enter their first IPL final since 2014, and delivered a great performance as a batter.

Karthik felt that if Iyer continues to perform the way he's currently doing, it will not be possible to stop him from returning to the side. Despite a brilliant IPL 2025 season, Iyer was neither picked in the Asia Cup squad nor chosen among the standby players.

"Look, Shreyas Iyer has done everything and more a player can do. Shreyas Iyer has probably been one of those players who have gone back to domestic cricket, did whatever possible, which is to help Mumbai win titles, and came back for IPL. As a captain, he did phenomenally well and even better as a batter. And I don’t see anybody stopping him. It’s only a matter of time because with those performances, it’s hard not to have someone like that in the squad," Karthik said in the interview.

The former Indian wicketkeeper batter regarded himself as a fan of the way Iyer plays. He was impressed by the way Iyer carries himself and makes a difference to his team. While Karthik claimed it's a bitter pill to swallow to see him not being picked, he hoped Iyer to return to the national side and be a regular all-format player.

"I’m a big fan of Shreyas Iyer because of the way he plays and the way he carries himself off the field with so much positive energy and the way he’s led his team. I believe that he would have taken it in his stride, even though it would have been a bitter pill to swallow. I genuinely wish that he finds a place across formats, not just T20, very soon," Karthik added in his statement.
