India obliterated the visiting side in the first T20I of the series. Batting first on a challenging surface, the home side posted 175/6 on the board. Hardik Pandya played a phenomenal knock of 59*(28), which helped India to post a respectable total. The wicket had something in it for the bowlers, which wasn't easy for the batters.

Defending 176, India got the early breakthroughs, thanks to Arshdeep Singh's spell with the new ball. At the other end, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, and Hardik Pandya consistently took wickets. What followed was a pavilion parade from the South African batters, who all perished in an attempt to score runs without adapting well to the wicket.
