Mohammad Azharuddin claimed Jasprit Bumrah must not have the right to pick and choose his matches. The former Indian captain said Bumrah had to manage his workload and give his everything for the country. Azharuddin wondered the scenario wherein India could be in need for Bumrah to perform under pressure.

The former Indian batter felt the need for the board and the player to speak in case of an injury. He claimed that once a player is picked in the squad, he/she must not have the authority of picking and choosing their matches. He felt the players had to manage their workload and give their everything while playing for the country.

"If there is an injury issue, then the Board and the player have to decide. However, I feel once you are in the team, you can't pick and choose your matches. There is a workload, but at this level, you must manage it. You are playing for the country," Azharuddin said as quoted by Mid-Day.

"We were fortunate that we could win without Bumrah," - Mohammad Azharuddin

Azharuddin noted that the Indian pacers like Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Akash Deep stepped up and performed whenever Bumrah was absent in the team. However, he wondered of scenarios when India would be under pressure and need Bumrah to perform, only for him to not play. The former Indian batter hence wanted India's best bowler to play nearly all matches for the country despite his injury concerns.

"It was a different story that Siraj, along with Prasidh [Krishna] and Akash Deep, rose to the occasion, and we were fortunate that we could win without Bumrah, but what happens if India needs Bumrah badly in a particular situation?" Azharuddin added in his statement.
