Mayank Agarwal led India A side scripted a huge turnaround to win the Duleep Trophy 2024 season. After India D beat India B it pushed Agarwal and his side to the bottom of the table. India A needed a win on the final day against Ruturaj Gaikwad India C who were at the top of the table.

Chasing 350 to win, India C were batting well with Sai Sudharsan scoring a century. With just 3 wickets down at the tea interval it seemed that the match was heading towards a draw.

After the tea break, India A bowlers came out all guns blazing. The bowlers maintained tight lines and length as the India C batters committed hara-kiri with the bat. The win was achieved in the final few moments of the day with just 4 overs left to play.

India A performs huge heist to take home Duleep Trophy

Ruturaj Gaikwad led India C were given 350 runs to win the title. The opening pair of Gaikwad and Vijaykumar Vyshak played 15.4 overs to add 36 runs for the 1st wicket. It was evident the batting side was looking for a draw to take the title home.

Substitute fielder Shaik Rasheed’s bullet throw saw Vyshak dismissed for 17 off 49 balls. Sai Sudharsan came out to join Gaikwad as the pair added 77 runs for the 2nd wicket in 22 overs. Aaqib Khan struck twice as he dismissed Gaikwad caught by Kushagra for 44. This was followed by the wicket of Rajat Patidar bowled for 7 off 31 balls.

Ishan Kishan came out to bat with aggressive intent and scored 17 off 25 balls. Tanush Kotian had the left-handed batter wicket when he was caught behind by Kumar Kushagra. This is where the match turned as the India A bowlers came back into the contest.

Abhishek Porel played a needless shot off Kotian to be caught by Mayank Agarwal for a duck. Pulkit Narang hung around for 24 balls to score six when he was out caught and bowled by Kotian in the most unfortunate manner. Narang went for a sweep and the ball hit the close-in fielder’s foot as the ball carried to Kotian who dove and took the catch.

In the meanwhile, Sai Sudharsan completed a well-deserved ton despite losing wickets at the other end. Manav Suthar came out and played out 35 balls as the Suthar and Sudharsan pair batted out 12 overs. That stand was broken when Suthar was caught by Agarwal off Mulani for 7. The biggest blow came when Prasidh Krishna’s short ball had Sudharsan caught by Kotian for 111. His knock came off 206 balls with 12 hits to the fence.

Injured batter Baba Indrajith came out but was sent back in the 2nd ball as Krishna got his 2nd wicket. 15 balls later it was all over when Anshul Kamboj saw the ball keep low and hit him on the pads. The umpire had no hesitation in giving him out LBW but the batter went for the DRS. The third umpire ruled it in favour of the bowling side as India A raced to 12 points and won the Duleep Trophy 2024 title dramatically.
