Duleep Trophy 2024 found a new hero in the form of Anshul Kamboj. The 23-year-old made headlines earlier this year after making his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians. Anshul Kamboj picked 8/69 to record the 2nd best bowling figures in an innings by a pacer in the Duleep Trophy. 

The bowling figures by Anshul Kamboj are also the fifth-best by a bowler in an innings in the history of the tournament. The 23-year-old has been earmarked as a future all-round option for the national side. The Haryana-based player recorded these figures for India C against India B on Sunday. 

Once the news spread, many cricket fans started to get curious about who Anshul Kamboj was. The youngster has become a huge sensation after his thunderous bowling exploits on Sunday.

Born on 6th December 2000 in Karnal Haryana, Anshul Kamboj is a hard-hitting batter and a medium-pace bowler. The youngster has been known to bowl at a steady pace with the ability to swing the ball. The 8/69 picked by the young pacer in the Duleep Trophy is his first fifer in first-class cricket.  

Young Anshul Kamboj made his first-class debut for Haryana in the game against Tripura at the age of 21. The game ended in a draw with Haryana taking the points based on the first innings lead. 

Anshul Kamboj scored 29 with the bat off 28 balls with 3 sixes as Haryana scored 536 in their 1st innings. With the ball right-arm seamer bowled 29 overs and gave away 78 runs without picking a wicket. 

In the List A format, Anshul Kamboj played a key role as Haryana won their first ever domestic ODI title. The Ashok Menaria led side beat Rajasthan in the final by 30 runs to win the Vijay Hazare Trophy in December late last year in 2023. The young pacer picked 2/34 in the final from 9 overs in a tournament which saw him scalp 17 wickets. 

Mumbai Indians picked the youngster ahead of the IPL 2024 season. Anshul Kamboj played just 3 games and picked 2 wickets with a best of 1/24 versus KKR. With the bat the right-handed batter scored 2 not out which was his best. After the latest exploits with his figures of 8/69 one can safely assume that the name of Anshul Kamboj will be heard lot more.
