On Saturday, the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing body announced the much-awaited rules regarding the retention of players in IPL. The regulations outlined the maximum number of players that a team may keep, the purse amount, the guidelines for foreign players, etc. It is mentioned that a maximum of six retentions - five capped players and one uncapped player have been granted to each squad. Although the auction is slated for later this year, the franchises have a deadline to determine which players they wish to keep.

With the mega auction coming up BCCI has set an important deadline for IPL teams. All 10 teams taking part in IPL should share their list of players that they want to keep for IPL 2025 by 31st October 2024. This move was confirmed by the IPL Governing Council to streamline the auction procedure and foster a competitive environment for teams and players alike.

According to the most recent information, IPL teams are allowed to keep a maximum of six players. Regular retention or the Right to Match (RTM) card option can be used to accomplish this. The teams can keep a core group of players by using the retention policy, which also gives them the freedom to adjust to the shifting dynamics within the squad. Franchises will have more financial flexibility to put together their dream teams now that the auction purse has been raised to Rs 120 crore per club.

Franchises have until October 31, 2024, at 5:00 PM IST, to turn in their roster of players they want to keep. If they miss this deadline, they will be forced to assemble their IPL 2025 squad entirely through the auction.

Franchises have a short window of time to make final judgments about important players who could determine their performance in the upcoming IPL season, as the retention deadline draws near. According to Cricbuzz, the auction would probably take place in the third or fourth week of November, after the list of retained players has been submitted.
