India D got off to a dismal start while responding to India A’s 290 runs in the first innings of the second-round Duleep Trophy match. They lost opener Atharva Taide in the opening over and lost to the veteran batter Shreyas Iyer a couple of overs later.

Iyer was dismissed for a seven-ball duck by left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed. Despite the failure, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain is currently trending on social media for his appearance on the field while batting. The right-hander came out to bat wearing sunglasses and now the pictures are going viral.

Netizens have flooded the comments section with hilarious remarks, with many calling him "Swagger". However, his sunglasses stint did not last long as he departed without opening his account, inviting trolls from fans. 

Legendary players like Chris Gayle, Clive Lloyd, and Daniel Vettori used to wear sunglasses while batting. English all-rounder Sam Curran was also seen wearing sunglasses while batting in an ODI match between England and West Indies last year.

Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian’s resilient fifties rescue India A

Invited to bat first, India A had a similarly dreadful start, losing openers Mayank Agarwal and Pratham Singh for cheap scores within the first six overs. Tilak Varma and Riyan Parag then steadied the ship for a while, but that did not hurt the opposition much.

The India D bowlers managed to find wickets at regular intervals as India A’s top and middle order failed to find any resistance. However, Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian stitched a brilliant partnership to gain control of the game. Mulani scored 89 off 187 deliveries, while Kotian hit 53 off 80 balls.

Both teams failed to clinch a win in the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024. India A lost by 70 runs to India A, while India D lost to India C by four wickets.
