Both the mainstream and social media are storming with the headlines of the former India batter Gautam Gambhir’s ‘appearance in interview’ for the position of India’s head coach. Gambhir was interviewed by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

Notably, the BCCI is looking ahead for Team India’s new head coach to succeed the current chair-holder Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ends with the conclusion of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Meanwhile, a media report has also revealed the three questions which were asked to Gautam Gambhir by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) during the interview. Having said that, here we’ll look at those three questions asked by CAC.

1. What are your ideas regarding the coaching staff of the team?

CAC reportedly asked Gambhir about his ideas regarding Team India’s coaching staff; the few media reports have learned that the remaining support staff will be the same, including the batting coach, bowling coach and fielding coach. So, it is quite to important to have the ideas of the new head coach regarding the coaching staff.

2. With a few ageing players in both the batting and bowling departments, how will you handle the transition phase?

Notably, a few players are ageing in Team India in both batting and bowling departments, so they are also nearing retirement. This might create a void in the team at the particular role. So, the onus will be on the new head coach to handle the transition phase in the team maturely.

Former instance, when the legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar retired from international cricket, the management looked up to Virat Kohli as the new number 4 in the Tests for Team India.

3. What are your views on split captaincy, fitness parameters concerning workload management, and the team’s failure in the ICC trophies?

There has been a debate for a long time in the Indian cricketing discourse about the idea of ‘split captaincy’ (having different captains for different formats). The debate has attracted a lot of divided opinions from the experts or the former Indian cricketers.

In the same regard, the CAC of the BCCI reportedly asked Gambhir’s stance about this very idea of ‘split captaincy’ and the fitness parameters to be maintained in the team.
