Former India batter and current KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir has applied for the head coach's position of the Indian Cricket team and went on for an interview round in Mumbai with BCCI secretary Jay Shah and other officials. As per reports, Gambhir placed a few demands in front of the management which was quite surprising and unexpected.
As per reports by IANS, while talking to the management, Gambhir clarified that if he becomes the head coach, he would want 'full control' over the team and would also like to have two separate teams for white-ball and red-ball cricket. The demands put forth by the left-hander seem to be quite unrealistic and difficult. However, the sources revealed that the Board has already agreed to the demands and Gambhir might become the head coach in the upcoming days.
Present coach Rahul Dravid's tenure as head coach got extended up to the end of the World Cup 2024 and post that the new coach will take his place. Rahul's dedication and efforts towards the team were brilliant as India were the runners-up in a couple of ICC tournaments. His combination with Rohit Sharma was something which India will remember for a longer time.
Will Gautam Gambhir become the Head Coach?
While nothing has been made official yet, all the theories are based on just reports by IANS. However, one important thing which should be understood is the nature of the demands placed by Gambhir. Being a coach, he would already have a certain power over the team and the decisions taken by them. However, the demand for having 'full control' over the team seems to be aggressive and dominating.

Moreover, the other demand of having two separate teams looks fine but if they look for a complete set of players will again create a lot of issues among the team. Hence, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should give it a lot of thought before giving such kind of power to someone, especially Gautam Gambhir.
