Claiming all ten wickets in an innings in Tests is regarded to be one of the possible yet rare feats in cricket. As a bowling unit, there is a good chance that bowlers from the other end could take wickets too. Hence, for a bowler to take all ten wickets in an innings, either they should bowl an exceptional spell, or with a lack of support from the other end.

In the history of international cricket, there have been only three such instances, where bowlers have claimed all ten wickets in an innings. One of them was so great that the same bowler also took 9 wickets in the other innings, resulting in a whopping 19 wickets in the same Test, a feat which might never be equalled or surpassed.

Jim Laker

Jim Laker holds a record which might nearly be impossible to be broken. After having claimed 11 wickets in the previous Test in Headingley, England squared off against Australia at Old Trafford in the fourth Test of the Ashes 1956. England batted first and posted 459 on the board on a wicket that deteriorated considerably with each passing minute.

That's when Laker spun his web and claimed 9/37 in his 16.4 overs in the first innings. James Burke was the only batter Laker didn't dismiss in the innings. However, even he was dismissed in the second innings, when Laker did the unthinkable - claim all 10 wickets in the innings. From both innings, Laker claimed a whopping 19 wickets, which is the most for a bowler in a single match to date.

Anil Kumble

It was the second Test of the series between India and Pakistan in Delhi in 1999. Pakistan had a lead of 1-0, following a thrilling win in Chennai. In the first innings, Kumble claimed 4/75 in his 24.3, which included the dismissals of Ijaz Ahmed, Mohammad Yousuf, Inzamam-ul-Haq, and Saqlain Mushtaq.

However, it was his performance in the second innings, which will be remembered for a long time. Defending 420, India was under a bit of pressure, as the visiting side was 101/0 at one stage. That's when Kumble wreaked havoc by taking all 10 wickets in the innings. In the process, he became only the second bowler and first Asian to claim all 10 wickets in an innings.

Ajaz Patel

Ajaz Patel became the third bowler to claim all ten wickets in a Test inning. It was the second Test of the 2021 series between India and New Zealand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India batted first and posted 325 on the board on a rank turner. Ajaz was the one who took all ten wickets for the visiting side.

The left-arm orthodox spinner dismissed the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Jayant Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj. Even in the second innings, he claimed 4/106. Unfortunately for New Zealand, they lost the match by a huge margin of 372 runs. It's the only 10-fer in Tests to have come in the losing cause.
