The concept of the ICC Player of the Month Award was introduced for the first time in January 2021, which was won by Rishabh Pant for his heroics in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Pant kept the wickets well and played great innings in the New Year Test in Sydney and the historic Gabba Tests, where he scored 97 and an unbeaten 89* respectively.

After him, many Indian players have won the award at least once. In fact, the first three winners of the award were all Indians, as Ravichandran Ashwin won it in February 2021 and Axar Patel bagged it in March 2021. Apart from them, other Indian players like Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Yashasvi Jaiswal have won it once.
The latest entrant to the club is Abhishek Sharma, who had a stellar month in September 2025, where he helped India win the Asia Cup with his batting performance. However, only three Indian players have won the ICC Player of the Month award multiple times, as of October 2025.

Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer won the award for the first time in February 2022. The star player performed well in the series against the West Indies. With not many competitors to challenge him, Iyer emerged as the undisputed winner of the award. His first win came for performing well in a bilateral series at home.
However, Iyer's second ICC Player of the Month Award was special, as it came in a bigger tournament away from home. The middle order batter played a key role in helping India to win the Champions Trophy 2025. For the same reason, he bagged the award in the month of March 2025.
Jasprit Bumrah
It took three and a half years for Jasprit Bumrah to win the award since its inception. However, when he claimed it for the first time, it could not have come in a bigger cause. In June 2024, Bumrah played a key role in India's win in the T20 World Cup, where he even won the Player of the Tournament award.
In the last month of the same year, Bumrah was exceptional in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. He won the award for the second time in the year in December 2024 in a completely different format to that of T20Is. The Indian pacer was nearly unplayable and was the undisputed winner of the award.
