Tyrese Maxey was sixth in the Most Improved Player vote two years ago, reflecting the leap he made between his first and second seasons in the NBA. Voters think that his move from third to fourth year was even more amazing.

On Tuesday night, Philadelphia 76ers All-Star guard was awarded the league's most-improved player for the season. Maxey's scoring increased for the third straight year, as he concluded the regular season averaging 25.9 points, 6.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game, all career highs.

As per AP News Tyrese Maxey after receiving the award stated to TBT broadcast that “It feels great.” “Somebody like myself, who prides me on putting in a lot of work and outworking people and finding ways to get 1% better every single time I step in the gym, it feels good for that to come to light, honestly.”

It's not unusual for players to have their stats skyrocket after being assigned a new job, but Maxey didn't. Consider this: two years ago, he averaged 17.5 points, 4.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 0.7 steals in 35.3 minutes of play. This year, he surpassed all of those marks while averaging only 2.2 more minutes per game.

Tyrese Maxey surpassed Coby White to win the award

Maxey beat out Chicago Bulls Coby White in the poll. Houston's Alperen Sengun finished third. White averaged 19.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, all career highs. Sengun averaged 21.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.2 steals in 32.5 minutes per game, which are all career highs.

Maxey received slightly more than half of the first-place votes, narrowly defeating White. Players received five points for voting first place, three for second, and one for third. Maxey finished with 319 points to White's 305, however, White appeared on 91 ballots while Maxey appeared on just 79.

Maxey also discussed the 76ers' playoff defeat to the New York Knicks on Tuesday, in which the team blew a five-point lead in the final 40 seconds due to many questionable no-calls that the NBA ruled incorrect. The setback sent the Sixers to a 0-2 playoff deficit as the series moved to Philadelphia.
