Tyrese Maxey was fouled twice before committing the error that led to Donte DiVincenzo's go-ahead 3-pointer in the New York Knicks' Game 2 victory against the Philadelphia 76ers, according to the NBA.
According to the league's Last 2 Minutes report, Philadelphia 76ers coach Nick Nurse twice attempted to request timeouts that were "neither recognized nor granted by the officials" during the possession. The 76ers intended to submit a grievance against the officiating after falling behind 2-0 in the series following the Knicks' 104-101 victory on Monday night.
The 76ers lead by five points until Jalen Brunson's three-pointer with 27 seconds left. The 76ers attempted to inbound the ball to Maxey, who was surrounded by Brunson and Josh Hart. Maxey fell to the ground, and Hart took the ball.
According to the NBA, Brunson grabbed Maxey's jersey first, preventing the All-Star guard from collecting the pass cleanly. The league determined that Hart then made lower-body contact, causing Maxey to collapse.
Other plays have been reported as incorrect non-calls. The league concluded that Hart stole the ball away from Maxey with a clean steal. The nurse attempted to call a timeout before the ball was passed in, then again after Maxey had fallen, which might have been too late.
I mean, we still had chances to win the game - Tyrese Maxey
As per News 18, “The timeout request is simultaneous to Hart making contact with the ball and (Philadelphia) not having possession,” the report said.
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid shouted an obscenity after the game, claiming that the referee was unsatisfactory for missing the attempted timeout and foul.
According to AP News, on Tuesday night Tyrese Maxey stated that, “I mean, we still had chances to win the game.” “I got my layup blocked and we missed a 3 at the end to tie. We can’t dwell on that. We can’t leave the games in other people’s hands. We’ve got to go out there and take it.”
