‘So I think there’s a lot of…’ Stephen Curry speaks about the similarity between him and Lionel Messi

Both Lionel Messi and Stephen Curry are two iconic players and have reached greatness in football and basketball. Currently, Stephen Curry has won the gold medal with the USA in the Paris Olympics 2024 and Lionel Messi has won the FIFA World Cup 2022 with Argentina. Both superstars of the game have a lot of respect for each other and praise them. Although their level of friendship isn't well known to the public, they have occasionally voiced their respect for one another.

NBA great Stephen Curry, who is renowned for his amazing shooting and playmaking skills, has publicly lauded Messi's football skills and declared himself to be an admirer of the Argentine genius. In 2018, Curry was leading the Golden State Warriors to new heights in the NBA while Messi was still playing for Barcelona.

At the time, three-time NBA champion Curry thought he and Messi had something in common when it came to bringing "creativity and innovation" to their respective sports. Curry, who took home the championship that year, believed it raised the bar for play. While speaking with the media, Stephen Curry discussed his similarity to Lionel Messi. 

"I think it’s the creative genius to what he does and a flair, but also there is a fundamental aspect to the flair. The work that he puts in, I’m assuming, based on the talent that he has, and combining that with the talent that he has and how that kind of shows when he’s out there on the pitch."

“So I think there’s a lot of comparisons, really, around the creativity and the innovation that we bring to our respective sports and trying to, I guess, impact - I would say influence the next generation to try to push themselves as well," Curry said, as per Sportskeeda.

Lionel Messi misses out on games for Inter Miami

Lionel Messi, an eight-time winner of the Ballon d'Or, is largely regarded as football's greatest ever. After departing Barcelona in 2021, the Argentine captain signed with Paris Saint-Germain, where he played for two seasons before travelling to the United States to play with Inter Miami. Meanwhile, Curry has remained with the Golden State Warriors, winning the NBA championship in 2022 and the Finals MVP award that year.

Currently, Lionel Messi is not able for Inter Miami games as he was injured while playing in the Copa America 2024 finals against Colombia. Meanwhile, Inter Miami lost the round of 32 match against Toronto as they defeated them by 4-3. Inter Miami manager Tata Martino will eye Lionel Messi's return to boost the hope of the club as the tournament is entering its final stages.
