The Phoenix Suns are not wasting time replacing Frank Vogel. According to reports, the Suns have agreed to sign Mike Budenholzer as their next head coach for five years and $50 million. The announcement came only one day after the Suns parted ways with Vogel.

Budenholzer is taking on his third head coaching job in the NBA, and his first since being dismissed by the Milwaukee Bucks after the 2022-23 season. He played five seasons in Milwaukee, leading the team to its second NBA title, the first with Giannis Antetokounmpo, but he was released two seasons later.

Mike Budenholzer did not coach anyplace in the league last season, but he was largely regarded as a top possibility this summer. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Budenholzer has been attempting to put together a coaching team for his next position in recent weeks.

Budenholzer, who spent 17 seasons coaching under Gregg Popovich in San Antonio, also led the Atlanta Hawks for five seasons. He has a career coaching record of 484-317, including 271-120 with the Bucks.

Mike Budenholzer has lot of work to do with Phoenix Suns

Budenholzer, who is from northern Arizona, will now take over for Vogel in Phoenix. Phoenix Suns dismissed Vogel on Thursday after only one season with the franchise. The Suns finished 49-33 under his guidance but were swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs.

Budenholzer is Phoenix's third head coach in as many seasons. He'll be entrusted with turning around a team that has relied on talents such as Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal following a difficult run in the Western Conference. The Suns gave up much of their crucial depth to lure those guys in to join Booker, and they will have few draft selections in the coming years.

While they have several roster concerns to address, Budenholzer appears to be eager to get started. It remains to be seen whether he is capable of sparking a meaningful revolution in Phoenix immediately.
