Though the team gets ready to decide on his contract, rumours have it that the Golden State Warriors are still considering trade options for veteran point guard Chris Paul. Paul has a $30 million club option through the 2024–25 season. Golden State has until Friday to decide whether to activate it.

Between 2023 and 2024, Paul played in 58 games for Golden State Warriors. During the game, he shot 44.1% from the field, 37.1% from beyond the arc, and 82.7% from the free throw line, averaging 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 6.8 assists. Over his career, Paul has averaged 9.4 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 17.5 points. He is among the NBA's most gifted point guards ever.

Paul, a future Hall of Famer, played with Los Angeles Clippers between 2011-12 and 2016-17. While his on-court contributions aren't as strong as they once were, his leadership skills remain, and that's enough for head coach Steve Kerr to want to keep him.

According to reports, this offseason approach also pushes free agent Klay Thompson lower down Golden State's list of summer objectives. Depending on Thompson's market, his future at Golden State is highly dubious.

Los Angeles Lakers would most likely be a popular choice to sign Chris Paul

Because of his longtime bond with LeBron James, the Lakers would most likely be a popular choice to sign the 12-time All-Star. Paul, who turned 39 in May, has noticed a deterioration in his skills in recent years. Nonetheless, Paul is set to earn $30 million next season, which is a difficult pill for any club to swallow, especially considering his age and productivity.

If Paul is not taken out of his contract year in a trade this summer, it is difficult to envision the Lakers selling Russell in a multi-team deal for an aging point guard. To compete in this new age of the Western Conference, the Lakers must become younger at all positions, especially point guard.
