Klay Thompson appears to be distancing himself from the Golden State Warriors before formally entering NBA free agency. Thompson unfollowed Golden State Warriors and removed practically all team-related posts dating back to April 2022, as fans noted. Thompson's post during the Warriors' title run in 2022 was among those erased.

The seasoned guard, who signed a five-year, $190 million contract with Golden State Warriors in 2019, has finished the last season of his deal. When the NBA free agency period begins on June 30, he may begin speaking with other organisations. As early as July 6, he will be prepared to sign with a new team.

Klay Thompson has played with the Warriors for each of his eleven NBA seasons. In the final year of his deal, he scored 17.9 points per game on a $43.2 million cap charge, which was the fewest since his second season in 2012–13.

He may now sign a four-year contract extension with a maximum of $223 million, which ESPN's Kendra Andrews reported in February was deemed "unrealistic" during the talks that started last summer.

It is worth noting that Thompson did not cut all relations with Golden State on Instagram. He still follows his teammates, for example, and his first post on Instagram shows photographs of him sailing in San Francisco Bay with Chris Paul and Moses Moody. Highlights of Thompson's early summer training in Warriors shorts have also been making the rounds on the internet recently.

Thompson's extension discussions with the Warriors stalled throughout the regular season, with the two sides allegedly far apart. Thompson's up-and-down 2023-24 season concluded on a low note, missing all ten of his field goal tries as Golden State was humiliated by the rival Sacramento Kings in the play-in round. Needless to say, that poor performance did not increase the front office's willingness to match his contractual expectations.
