A'ja Wilson scored 31 points, Jackie Young had 22, and Kelsey Plum added 21, as the Las Vegas Aces defeated Chicago 95-83 on Thursday night, despite rookie Angel Reese's ninth consecutive double-double for the Sky.
Angel Reece's 18 points and 11 rebounds equaled Candace Parker for the WNBA's longest double-double run this season. Parker achieved it in 2015, and she had a 12-game run over two seasons (2009-10). Wilson scored 15 points in the first quarter, Young 12 in the third, and Plum 16 in the fourth. Wilson's 18th 30-point game of his career and 12th this season with at least 25.
Olympian Chelsea Grey, in her third game back from injury and part of Las Vegas Aces' three-game winning run, had another excellent game with eight points, six rebounds, and five assists. Kiah Stokes had six of the 11 blocks for Las Vegas (9-6), which shot five more three-pointers and scored nine more free throws than Chicago.
Marina Mabrey led the Sky with 21 points (6-10) but had just eight after the first quarter. Chennedy Carter scored 20 points. Plum scored the first seven points in the fourth quarter, extending Las Vegas' advantage to 79-63. Reese scored nine points in the quarter to keep Chicago's two-game winning streak alive. In the first quarter, Mabrey scored 13 points and made all five of her shots, giving the Sky a 25-21 advantage.
Chicago Sky took control of game
Young went without a basket in the opening quarter but scored eight in the second, helping the Aces outscore the Sky 25-14 to take a 46-39 advantage into halftime. Wilson's league record for 20 straight points in a regular season game was extended to 20 points at the half with her 23 points. In the first quarter, the Sky shot 58%, and in the second, 29%.
In the second half, Chicago Sky immediately knotted the game with seven consecutive points, five of which came from Mabrey. Kamilla Cardoso's short-range basket gave them a 61-60 lead. Las Vegas increased their advantage from four points to 72 points at the start of the fourth quarter in only the final three minutes.
