Klay Thompson is departing the Golden State Warriors after deciding to sign with the Western Conference-winning Dallas Mavericks team. In his thirteen years in the NBA, he has never switched teams before. There are two people who know about the Monday announcement.

According to reports, the condition of anonymity is because the agreement has not been made public. As it stands, it will be carried out as the sign-and-trade of a three-year, $50 million contract involving the Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, and Charlotte Hornets. Final trade conditions were still being negotiated, according to sources.

With 2,481, Klay Thompson ranks sixth on the NBA's record of 3-pointers made, trailing only Damian Lillard (2,607), Ray Allen (2,973), James Harden (2,940), and Thompson's now-former "Splash Brother" with the Warriors, Stephen Curry, who has 3,747 career 3-pointers made. There were hints last season that things could be coming to an end for Thompson and the Warriors.

Thompson came off the bench 14 times, which isn't much given that he played 77 games, but it was his first appearance as a reserve since his rookie season in 2011-12. He had the second-worst 3-point shooting percentage in his career, at 38.7%.

Dallas Mavericks recently made it to NBA Finals

He averaged 17.9 points, the third-lowest in his career. He wasn't usually in the starting lineup, and the season and his Golden State Warriors career ended with a 0-for-10 shooting effort against Sacramento in a play-in tournament loss.

Thompson, a five-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA pick who missed two seasons due to injury took a long look around the field after that game, taking up the atmosphere as if it was his last game with the Warriors. It turns out it was. And now he'll join a Dallas squad that recently advanced to the NBA Finals as a shooter to assist Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
