The USA was able to end the medal tally on top of the Paris Olympics 2024 due to the last-minute success of their Women's Basketball team. With just a few minutes left for the conclusion of the event, the US beat France 67-66 to claim a thrilling win. It not only ensured their unbeaten streak which continued but also helped the USA to end the Olympics on a high.

By the conclusion of the Women's Basketball final, China was leading the medal tally with a total of 40 gold medals. The USA was right behind them with 39 gold medals but more Silver and Bronze medals than China. The USA had to claim just one gold medal to end the Olympics on a high. That's exactly what they did, thanks to the women's Basketball team.

It was not an easy ride at all for the 8-time champions. They were up against a formidable side like France who seemed brilliant in the final. Given the home support, it seemed like pressure was on the USA to give their best. With just a few seconds left in the game, USA had a slender lead of 65-64 in the game. It was not going to be enough.

Kahleah Copper and A'ja Wilson star in the USA's win

The USA took a crucial lead at that point, thanks to Kahleah Copper's two free throws. It ensured the USA got a lead of 67-64 with a few minutes for the game to end. However, the trouble wasn't over for the USA. France had a chance to tie the game due to the last-second attempt from Gabby Williams. All hopes of France depended on her.
