In a recent social media update, Alexis Ohanian, husband of tennis icon Serena Williams and a notable figure in the sports card collecting community, highlighted a significant trend in the NBA card market involving Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

Ohanian, who is known for his astute observations in the business of sports cards, pointed out the stark rise in market value of Jaylen Brown’s cards over the past 30 days. He compared it to those of his Boston Celtics teammate, Jayson Tatum.

Ohanian shared data from @altxyzofficial via his Instagram stories, illustrating that Brown’s cards have seen a remarkable surge in demand and value. Ohanian noted this surge can largely be attributed to Brown’s outstanding performance and subsequent recognition as the NBA Finals MVP. The accolade not only elevated Brown’s profile but also significantly boosted the desirability and investment potential of his sports cards among collectors.

How did Jaylen Brown dominate Jayson Tatum in market dynamics?

The Reddit co-founder emphasized that such market dynamics often reflect on-court achievements and public perception within the NBA community. Jayson Tatum, while highly regarded and a popular figure among collectors since his impressive rookie season with the Celtics, has seen his market presence overshadowed by Brown’s recent achievements and increased visibility.

Tatum, known for his scoring prowess and marketability, has enjoyed a strong following in the sports card market, bolstered by endorsements and a signature shoe deal with the Air Jordan Brand. In contrast, Jaylen Brown, despite not having the same level of commercial endorsements or personal brand recognition, has now emerged as a sought-after commodity in the sports card world due to his pivotal role in leading the Celtics to championship success.

Recently, Stephen A Smith called out an unknown source saying Brown is not as marketable as Tatum. He had said, "I wanted to read to y'all what an NBA source just sent me. He said, 'Jaylen Brown, it's not so much that he's underrated, it's that he's just not liked because of his I-am-better-than-you attitude. He knows it. It's the same reason he is not as marketable as he should be.' That's what an NBA source just sent me."
