JJ Redick, the Los Angeles Lakers' first-year coach, is preparing the squad for a difficult 2024–2025 NBA season. Both the younger players and the more seasoned veterans appear to be warming up and embracing a new team mindset in an attempt to improve on their seventh-place showing from the previous season.

After Sunday’s practice, Anthony Davis discussed the fierce rivalry between LeBron James and his son Bronny James on the court. Basketball players must train with the same intensity they bring to games, and the James team is a shining example of this idea. Even at practice before the season starts, the team’s spirits have been lifted by their spirit of competition. Davis shared his observations from a recent meeting between the two.“

Bronny James hit a three over him (LeBron) today and everybody was talking smack, in Bronny’s favor,” Davis said. “Then Bron came down and bullied somebody. Took it out on who, I forgot who it was, got a layup. Bronny came back down, hit another three, and Bron wanted the ball,” The father-son bond is intense and competitive, even during practice, Anthony Davis continued.

Los Angeles Lakers to start new era under JJ Redick

The Lakers have a new head coach, new tactics, and LeBron James is getting close to 40, so they need to start the NBA season strong. After losing twice in the first round of the playoffs and finishing seventh three times in the previous four seasons, the squad is making an effort to avoid the difficulties of the past few years. The Lakers were not even eligible for the play-in tournament in the 2021–22 season.

Even though this season will surely be difficult, preseason performances have been positive, particularly in light of how JJ Redick's strategies have improved the play of players like Davis and D'Angelo Russell. The Lakers may have a chance to go far in the postseason if they can get back to their previous level of play.
